AI for the paperwork, not the patient.
Referral letters, patient leaflets, guideline summaries and translations, in a chat whose AI inference runs on infrastructure inside the European Union. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose.

Health data is special. Treat it that way.
Health data is a special category under article 9 of the GDPR, and medical secrecy applies on top. Where the model runs helps. It does not replace your own assessment.
Using AI on patient data will usually need a data protection impact assessment. That DPIA is yours to make. We supply the facts it needs: the subprocessor list, the data processing agreement and how the models behave, on AI transparency.
- True: All AI inference runs on infrastructure inside the European Union.
- True: Prompts and answers never go to the United States or China.
- True: Nothing you type is used to train models.
- True: Practices get a data processing agreement under article 28 GDPR.
- Not true: “A medical device.” Union AI has no medical purpose and is not meant for diagnosis, treatment or clinical decisions.
- Not true: “Certified for healthcare.” We hold no health-sector certifications. The data centre certifications of our inference provider are Scaleway's, not ours.
- Not true: “No data leaves the EU.” Hosting, database and payments run through companies with a US parent, named on the subprocessor list.
The admin around the consultation.
Work where a draft saves you time and you check every line before it leaves the practice.
Referral letters
Turn your notes into a clear, structured referral letter to edit and sign. Leave out what identifies the patient and add it yourself afterwards.
Patient information
Rewrite the explanation of a procedure or a medication schedule in plain language, at the reading level you ask for.
Guideline summaries
Summarise a published guideline or protocol into the points that matter for your practice, then check them against the source.
Translation
Translate patient letters and leaflets between EU languages. Have anything clinical checked by a native speaker or a professional translator.
Practice admin
Draft emails, job ads, practice policies, website text and replies to common patient questions.
Meeting and course notes
Turn rough notes from a team meeting or a course into a tidy summary and a list of actions.
What stays out of the chat.
Our rules of thumb. Your professional body and your data protection officer come first.
- No diagnosis or treatment decisions. Do not use the chat to decide what is wrong with a patient or what to prescribe. It is not built, tested or certified for that.
- No identifiable patient data, unless your own DPIA allows it. Names, dates of birth, patient numbers and addresses stay out by default. Write the patient instead.
- Check every medical fact. Models can state wrong doses, outdated advice and studies that do not exist, with confidence. Check against the guideline or the product information.
- Watch for rare details. A rare condition plus a town and an age can identify someone without a name.
- You sign it, you own it. Anything that reaches a patient or a colleague is your text, checked by you.
Not a medical device
What you paste, and whether it may go in.
A starting point for your practice's own rules. Your DPIA decides.
| What you paste | Can it go in? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Published guidelines, leaflets and public information | Yes | No personal data involved |
| Your own templates and draft letters, without patient details | Yes | No personal data involved |
| Practice admin: rosters, policies, supplier emails | Yes, with care | Staff names are personal data too, so share only what the task needs |
| Case details with everything identifying removed | Only if your DPIA covers it | Rare details can still point to one person |
| Identifiable patient data | Only if your DPIA and professional rules allow it | Special-category data under article 9 GDPR |
Guidance, not legal advice. When in doubt, ask your data protection officer.
What your DPIA will ask for.
Public documents you can cite in your own assessment.
What doctors ask us.
Short answers. Your professional body and your data protection officer have the final word.
Can doctors use ChatGPT or AI to write patient letters?
For drafting, yes, as long as identifiable patient data stays out or your own data protection impact assessment allows it. Health data is special-category data under the GDPR, and medical confidentiality applies on top. Check every letter before it goes out.
Is Union AI GDPR compliant for health data?
No tool is compliant on its own: the processing is. Union AI gives you the pieces, namely inference inside the EU, no training on your data, a data processing agreement and a public subprocessor list. Whether health data may go in is for your own DPIA to decide.
Can AI help with diagnosis?
Not this one. Union AI is not a medical device and is not meant for diagnosis or treatment decisions. Use it for admin and writing, and keep clinical judgment with clinicians.
Do I need a DPIA to use AI in my practice?
If patient data goes in, most likely yes: processing special-category data with new technology is what a DPIA is for. If you only use it for published material and your own templates, the risk is much lower. Your data protection officer can tell you which applies.
Does Union AI hold healthcare certifications?
No. We hold no health-sector certifications and do not claim any. Scaleway, which runs the inference, holds its own data centre certifications; those are Scaleway's, not ours.
Where is my practice's data processed?
All AI inference runs on infrastructure inside the European Union, and prompts and answers never go to the United States or China. Hosting, database and payments involve companies with a US parent. The subprocessor list names every party.
Can AI write patient information in plain language?
Yes, and it does that well. Tell it the reading level and the language you need, then check the medical content against the source before you hand it out.
