An AI chatbot subscription in the European Union costs between €8 and €23 a month for one person, including VAT, as of September 2026. ChatGPT Plus is €23, Google AI Pro €21.99, Microsoft 365 Premium €22, Claude Pro €18 plus VAT, Mistral Vibe Pro €14.99 plus VAT, and ChatGPT Go €8. Union AI's chat plan is €13 a month plus VAT (€15.73 at 21%), or €11 a month billed yearly. For teams, expect roughly €18 to €30 per seat per month, usually with a two-seat minimum.

Those numbers look easy to compare. They are not. Some providers publish prices with VAT in, others without. Some set a real euro price, others convert from dollars. Some give a discount for paying a year up front. This post puts every plan on the same footing, so you can see what a year actually costs.

Five steps from sticker price to what you pay: currency, VAT, billing period and minimum seats.

How much does each AI chatbot cost in euros?

Here is every plan we could verify on the provider's own EU pricing page, read on 22 September 2026 from the Netherlands. We left out any plan or price we could not confirm there. Prices are per person per month.

A few things jump out. ChatGPT Plus is the most expensive of the everyday plans. Claude Pro and Mistral Vibe Pro look cheaper on the page than they are at the till, because their headline figure leaves VAT out. And the difference between the dearest and the cheapest plan with no ads is about €87 a year per person on monthly billing, or €116 if you take the cheapest plan's yearly price.

Which prices include VAT and which don't?

VAT is the sales tax every EU country adds to a consumer purchase, between 17% and 27% depending on where you live. The EU requires shops to show consumers the price including VAT. Most AI providers follow that on their consumer page. Anthropic shows the price without tax and adds it at checkout, and says so in small print: "Prices shown don't include applicable tax". Mistral shows a tax-inclusive price once you pick your country, and "Excluding taxes" in its dollar view.

So Claude Pro at €18 is €21.78 in the Netherlands. Mistral's own page shows Vibe Pro at €18.14 with Dutch VAT and €17.99 with French VAT. Same plan, same €14.99 before tax, different country rate. Union AI is the same: €13 excluding VAT, or €11 a month billed yearly, and the rate of your own EU country is added at checkout.

Is it billed in euros or dollars?

Every plan in the table bills in euros for EU customers. That was not always true. OpenAI's help centre now lists EUR as the billing currency for the whole EEA in its multi-currency billing article, and Anthropic and Mistral both show euro prices to EU visitors. The euro figure is not a straight conversion of the dollar one, though. OpenAI's help centre lists ChatGPT Business at $25 a seat per month; the EU page shows €26, which is closer to the dollar price plus VAT than to the exchange rate.

What do you get for the money on each plan?

The cheapest plan is only the best value if it does what you need. Here is what each one includes, briefly and from the provider's own page.

ChatGPT Go and ChatGPT Plus

ChatGPT Go (€8) gives you more messages, uploads and image generation than the free tier. OpenAI says the plan "may include ads". ChatGPT Plus (€23) adds OpenAI's reasoning models (GPT-6 Astra and GPT-5.6 on the page today), deep research, projects, custom GPTs and Codex. "Limits apply" is the only statement about how much you get. On both plans your content can be used to train OpenAI's models unless you opt out.

Claude Pro

Claude Pro (€18 plus VAT, or €180 a year) gives you more usage than the free tier, the Opus models, projects, research and Claude Code. Usage is capped per five-hour session and per week rather than by message count, so heavy days can run into the limit. Training is opt-out on the consumer plans.

Google AI Pro and Microsoft 365 Premium

These two are bundles. Google AI Pro (€21.99) includes Gemini with higher limits, Deep Research and 5 TB of Google storage. Microsoft 365 Premium (€22 a month or €219 a year) includes Copilot with Microsoft's highest consumer limits, plus Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and 1 TB of storage per person for up to six people. Only the subscription owner gets the AI features.

If you already pay for Microsoft 365 or Google storage, part of this price replaces something you pay anyway. If you do not, you are buying storage and office apps to get a chatbot. What you would lose by leaving those bundles for a European chat is covered in European alternatives to Claude, Copilot and Gemini. Microsoft no longer sells Copilot Pro: its support page says it is "no longer available for purchase" and points to Microsoft 365 Premium instead.

Mistral Vibe Pro

Mistral renamed Le Chat to Vibe this year, and its help centre confirms plans carried over. Vibe Pro (€14.99 plus VAT) gives more messages and web searches than the free plan, more image generation, all-day coding in the CLI and IDE, and monthly API credits for Mistral's developer platform. Mistral is the one European company among the big names here. Training on your chats is opt-out.

Union AI Chat

Union AI's chat plan (€13 plus VAT) includes 2,000 messages a month across all four model tiers. An answer from the heaviest tier counts as five. The first 5 messages are free, without a card. Every conversation is processed on infrastructure inside the European Union and never used to train a model. Paying for the year brings it down to €11 a month, €132 for the year.

The honest trade-off: Union AI runs open-weight models, meaning models whose trained weights are published so anyone can run them on their own hardware. Today that is gpt-oss-120b, Qwen 3.6, DeepSeek V4 Flash and GLM 5.2. They are good, but they are not GPT-6 or Claude Opus. If your work depends on the single strongest model on the market, one of the American plans will do some tasks better. We compare the models side by side in the best European AI chatbots of 2026.

The cheapest AI chatbot is only cheap if it does the job. Compare the price per year, including VAT, against what you would actually use.

What does a year cost, for you or your team?

Move the slider to set how many people need a chatbot. At one person you see individual plans. From two people up you see team plans, which add shared billing, admin controls and, at most providers, a promise not to train on your data. Switch between monthly and yearly billing, and between prices with and without VAT.

List prices from each provider's EU pricing page on 22 September 2026, per year. VAT at the 21% rate of the Netherlands; yours depends on where you live, and a business with a valid VAT number usually pays the excl. VAT figure. Microsoft 365 Premium and Google AI Pro bundle storage and other apps, so their price buys more than chat. Price is not the same as value: limits and models differ per plan, which the article covers.

How much do AI chatbots cost for a team?

Team plans cost more per seat than individual plans. You pay for admin controls, central billing and, usually, a stronger data promise. Most have a two-seat minimum.

Team plan Per seat, monthly Per seat, yearly Minimum VAT in it?
Union AI Chat €13 plan + €10 per extra seat €11 plan + €10 per extra seat 1 No
Claude Team (standard seat) €21.04 €18 2 No
ChatGPT Business (standard seat) €26 €21 2 Not stated
Mistral Vibe Team €30.24 (NL) Not shown 2 Yes

OpenAI's EU page shows €21 and €26 per seat without saying whether VAT is in it. The figures line up with the US prices ($20 and $25) plus about 21%, so the calculator above treats them as VAT-inclusive. If you are a business with a VAT number, check the amount at checkout before you commit.

A ten-person team, worked out

Take ten people on monthly billing, excluding VAT, which is what an EU business with a VAT number pays:

  1. Union AI: €13 + 9 × €10 = €103 a month, €1,236 a year. Yearly billing on the plan brings it to €1,212.
  2. Claude Team: 10 × €21.04 = €210.40 a month, €2,524.80 a year. Yearly billing brings it to €2,160.
  3. Mistral Vibe Team: 10 × €24.99 = €249.90 a month, €2,998.80 a year.
  4. ChatGPT Business: 10 × €26 = €260 a month as shown on the page, which may include VAT, so up to €3,120 a year, or €2,520 on annual billing.

The spread is bigger for teams than for individuals, because it multiplies. It is still not the whole story. ChatGPT Business connects to Google Workspace, Slack and Microsoft 365 and includes workspace agents. Claude Team connects to Microsoft 365 and adds enterprise search. Both include SSO. Union AI sells extras as separate switches: a Company knowledge add-on (€20 a month for the account) lets the chat answer from your own documents. If you are moving a team across, our guide on how to switch your team from ChatGPT walks through the steps.

Is the cheapest AI chatbot the best value?

Not automatically. Three things matter as much as the price.

Limits

A plan that runs out on Wednesday is not cheap. OpenAI says "limits apply" to Plus. Anthropic caps usage per session and per week. Google and Microsoft describe limits as multiples of the free tier. Union AI gives a number: 2,000 messages a month. If you send 50 messages a working day, that is about 1,000 a month, and most plans will hold. If you run long research tasks all day, you will hit limits on almost any plan at this price.

Models

The American plans give you the strongest closed models on the market. For hard reasoning, long code and cutting-edge image generation, that shows. For writing emails, summarising documents, translating and answering questions about a PDF, the gap between a good open-weight model and a frontier model is much smaller than the price gap. Test with your own work before you decide. Union AI's first 5 messages are free for exactly that reason.

Where your data goes

Price comparisons skip this, but for a business it can decide the matter. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot are American services. Their consumer plans let the provider train on your chats unless you opt out, and their data sits with companies under US law. If you handle customer data, read whether you can legally put customer data into an AI chatbot and our look at whether ChatGPT is GDPR compliant before you pick on price alone.

Union AI processes prompts and answers on infrastructure inside the EU. We do not claim that no data ever leaves the EU: hosting, our database and payments involve companies with a US parent, and our subprocessors page lists every one of them.

When is a subscription the wrong choice?

When your use is uneven or built into software. A subscription charges the same whether you send ten messages or two thousand. If you only need AI inside a script or an app, paying per token through an API is usually far cheaper, often cents a month at low volume. Our post on AI API pricing per token shows where the break-even point sits. Union AI's API is paid from prepaid credit in euros; the chat is always the one plan, €13 a month or €11 billed yearly.

And if price is not the only reason you are looking, our guide to the European alternative to ChatGPT covers the rest of the decision, and what a European AI chatbot is explains what the label should and should not mean.

How to compare AI chatbot prices yourself

Prices change. Plans get renamed or retired, as Le Chat and Copilot Pro were. When you check a price yourself, go through the same five steps each time:

  1. Read the sticker price on the provider's own pricing page, from your own country.
  2. Check the currency and whether the page converts it for you.
  3. Find the VAT line. Look for "excluding taxes" or "prices don't include tax" in the small print.
  4. Pick the billing period. Annual is cheaper where it exists, but you pay up front and lose the option to leave.
  5. Count the seats, including any minimum, and multiply by twelve.

That gives you the one number worth comparing: what a year costs you, in euros, with tax. Then weigh it against limits, models and where your data goes.

Frequently asked questions

How much is ChatGPT Plus in euros?

ChatGPT Plus is 23 euros a month on OpenAI's pricing page for the European Union, billed in euros. OpenAI shows that figure as the consumer price, so VAT is already in it; at the Dutch rate of 21% that is about 19.01 euros before VAT. There is no annual plan for Plus, only monthly billing.

What is the cheapest AI chatbot subscription?

Of the paid plans checked in September 2026, ChatGPT Go at 8 euros a month is the cheapest, but it has lower limits than Plus and OpenAI says it may include ads. Union AI's chat plan is 13 euros a month excluding VAT, about 15.73 euros at 21% VAT, or 11 euros a month if you pay for the year, with 2,000 messages and no ads. Every other mainstream plan in this comparison costs between about 18 and 23 euros a month including VAT.

Is Claude Pro cheaper than ChatGPT Plus?

Slightly. Claude Pro is 18 euros a month excluding tax, or 180 euros a year paid up front, which works out to 15 euros a month. With 21% VAT that is 21.78 euros a month on monthly billing, against 23 euros for ChatGPT Plus. On a yearly Claude Pro plan the gap grows to about 58 euros a year.

Do I pay VAT on an AI chatbot subscription as a business?

Usually not, if you are a business inside the EU and enter a valid VAT number at checkout. The provider then applies the reverse charge and you account for VAT yourself, so the price that matters to you is the excl. VAT figure. Consumers always pay the VAT rate of their own EU country.

Can I still buy Copilot Pro?

No. Microsoft says Copilot Pro is no longer available for purchase and that support for existing subscriptions ends on 1 August 2026. Its Copilot features now come with Microsoft 365 Premium, which costs 22 euros a month or 219 euros a year on Microsoft's Dutch site and also includes the Office apps and 1 TB of storage per person.

What happened to Le Chat Pro?

Mistral renamed Le Chat to Vibe, and existing plans carried over. The Pro plan is now Mistral Vibe Pro. Mistral's own pricing page shows it at 18.14 euros a month with Dutch VAT and 17.99 euros with French VAT, which is 14.99 euros before tax.

Is an annual AI subscription worth it?

Only if you are sure you will use it all year. Claude Pro saves 36 euros a year on annual billing, Microsoft 365 Premium about 45 euros, and team plans from OpenAI and Anthropic save roughly 14 to 19% per seat. ChatGPT Plus, Google AI Pro and Mistral Vibe have no annual discount on their consumer plans. Union AI does: 11 euros a month instead of 13, so 132 euros for the year and 24 euros saved.
